Kinston Police: Arrest made in connection with shooting

On Saturday, September 18th, 2021, at approximately 3:50 pm, Kinston Police Officers  responded to shots fired near the 1100 block of Pollock St. Kinston, N.C. Officers arrived on  scene and located the victim, Rashad O’Neil, 25, of Kinston. The preliminary investigation  revealed that two individuals operating a white SUV drove past Mr. O’Neil and began firing  shots at him from the vehicle. After the shooting the assailants fled the area. 

On Tuesday, September 21st, 2021, members of the Kinston Police Department obtained  warrants for Derrick McCarter, 25, and a juvenile, 17, both of Kinston for Attempted Murder.  McCarter was apprehended a short time later on the 700 block of Thompson Street. During the  arrest, McCarter was found to be in possession of a stolen firearm. McCarter was placed in the  Lenoir County Detention Center and is being held on a $1,050,000 bond. The juvenile was  arrested without incident and placed in the Pitt County Juvenile Detention Center.
