Duplin County now has another option for local news with the launch of DuplinReview.com, an online media outlet, beginning today. Duplin Review is a free hyper-local news service, where subscribers receive an email newsletter every weekday morning at 7:00, and followers can keep up with news via Facebook, Instagram and Twitter.

Duff’s Cafe owner Janet Duff Miller said, “I think it is great to see another news source. It means Duplin County is growing!”

Kinston-based Magic Mile Media created Duplin Review to support the greater Duplin community. Magic Mile Media is the team behind NeuseNews.com, an online media outlet in Lenoir, Jones, and Greene counties, and DavidsonLocal.com, an online media outlet for Davidson County. Former Kinston Mayor BJ Murphy and businessman Brandon Potter founded Magic Mile Media in December 2016.

“Our team is excited about Duplin Review because it'll give the residents of Duplin County a choice when it comes to hyperlocal news,” said Murphy. “We are dedicated to this being a free service, just like Neuse News and NCPoliticalNews.com, with no annoying pop-up ads and no AP news.”

Magic Mile Media hopes to duplicate its successful emailed newsletters to bring local news directly to the residents of Duplin County at no cost to them.

“We are fortunate that Duplin County native Norma-Jean Miller will help lead our efforts,” said Murphy. “She has deep roots in the area and still resides in Beulaville.”

The local-first approach taken by Magic Mile Media allows local news to be reported as it happens using social media platforms as a secondary medium for the news. The interactive features of social media allow area residents to participate in the news instead of reading it in a paper the next day.

“We see news as telling a community's story like our grandparents remembered - grabbing your coffee and reading about your neighbor's recent accomplishments or what happened at Town Hall,” said Murphy.

The digital news platform will allow for businesses to promote themselves via banner ads, allow for help wanted ads, help organizations promote upcoming events and more. Over time Duplin Review will work with local funeral homes to share obituaries.

Residents are encouraged to write letters to the editor via info@duplinreview.com. Likewise, if someone would like to write for Duplin Review or if a business is interested in introductory advertising rates via the website or the newsletter simply email info@duplinreview.com.

Murphy added, “Duplin Review considers itself a partner to the community and will be committed to Duplin County's overall success.”
