Rotary International President Shekhar Mehta from West Bengal, India toured EastPoint Prosthetics & Orthotics, Inc. in Kinston. Rotary International is an organization that hopes to bring together businesses and professional leaders in order to provide humanitarian service around the world.

“Kinston is a nice small town, I like it,” said Mehta. “The entire drive from Wilmington to here is beautiful.”

The local Rotaract Club of Kinston, along with local businesses, helped deliver 3D-printed face shields for medical workers in India. Rotary member Paul Suggs gave the tour and Mehta was joined by other Rotary dignitaries.

“I came to see this facility,” Mehta said of EastPoint Prosthetics & Orthotics, Inc. “Where they make prosthetics and they send them around the world. They send them to Africa to Asia, to other places, for people there. These are life-changing stories.”

Mehta stated that when someone without limbs receives a prosthetic, “You are giving them dignity. You’re giving them a new life altogether.”

He has always loved service activities. “What greater joy can you have than changing someone else’s life and that’s what they are doing.”
