Obituary - Jimmie Dee Herring

Jimmie Dee Herring

November 27, 1937 – October 20, 2022

La Grange – Jimmie Dee Herring went from the valley of his earthly home to the mountain top of his eternal home on Friday, October 20, 2022, surrounded by his family. He can now go rest high with his Savior as he always dreamed. Jimmie Dee was born in Lenoir County on November 27, 1937 to the late Jimmie Deb Herring and Clemmie Braxton Herring.

Jimmie Dee was the ultimate family man. He was married to his sweet Angie for over 63 years. They raised two children and always made sure God was the center of everything. Jimmie Dee was a hard working farmer. He started in the field with his father at the age of 10 and didn’t stop until his recent illness. For over 75 years he tended and cared for God’s good creation. Jimmie Dee thought of those who worked with him as family. It takes a village to be a farmer and he loved his village with all he had. He was a steward of all that God had given to him – his land, his family, his workers and his community. His love of the land carried into his hobbies – hunting and fishing.

Jimmie Dee was known to many as “Honey”. He had a kind spirit and wise words for those who were willing to listen. He was one who young people could count on being there if they needed anything. He was not one to talk about it, he was just a man of action and love. Jimmie Dee shared his wisdom and guidance with many as a board member of the Lenoir County Farm Bureau for nearly 20 years.

Jimmie Dee worshipped his Lord and Savior for his entire life at La Grange First Free Will Baptist Church. Over the years, he served as a Sunday School Teacher, Sunday School Superintendent, and as a Deacon. His term as a deacon continued until his death. He loved his church family and wanted to tend to the land of his church home as well. Everything was done with such care.

A Service of Remembrance will be held on Monday, October 24, 2022 at La Grange First Free Will Baptist Church at 11 am with a committal service to follow at Fairview Cemetery. A time of visitation will be held at Rouse Funeral Home on Sunday, October 23, 2022 from 4 pm – 6 pm.

Jimmie Dee is survived by his wife, Angie Jones Herring; children, Dee Ann Maready (Robert), and Greg Herring (Debbie); grandchildren, Brent Herring (Lindsay) and Jacob Maready; great-grandchildren, Connor, Madi and Declan Herring; sisters-in-law, Annie Ruth Herring, Peggy Blizzard, Jean Jones, Bettie Jones and Doris Jones; along with many special nieces and nephews whom he loved dearly.
