Help wanted: Lenoir County Government - IT System Technician II

Salary Range: $38,128 - $58,016

GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES: Performs technical work and consulting to users in the coordination and design of applications, networks, hardware systems; also performs special functions in data base coordination.

DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS:
An employee in this class is responsible for providing support to the users of the computerized environment including the maintenance, on site training, and other assistance for the efficient operation of the information system. This position provides testing of new applications, documenting procedures, maintaining inventory lists. Work also includes organization of databases of current leased machines and locations of phones and switches. Work requires troubleshooting problems with equipment or applications and an understanding of existing computer applications and equipment. The employee may be required to conduct training and implement needed changes with departments. Work is performed under supervision of the Information Technology Director and is evaluated through conferences, records and reports, and successful implementation of automated environments and programs.

ILLUSTRATIVE EXAMPLES OF WORK:

• Provides programming and technical support to users. • Visits work sites or provides technical answers via telephone or network to diagnose and solve automat
ion and network problems.
• Provides input to identified user needs to determine the hardware, software, network and automated configuration needed to meet needs; uses judgment in this process.
• Provides minor maintenance for computers and printers; coordinates and/or assists with hardware installation; teaches users how to operate equipment and software. Handles inventory lists for all IT equipment – both voice and data, including but not limited to as built drawings and lease equipment as well.
• Plans and coordinates production schedules with user departments; generates print outs for users; enters data into databases.
• Prepares backup tapes for the information system; maintains security and access to system.
• Orders materials and supplies for data processing equipment.
• Prepares purchase orders; enters information into the computer; maintains logs of purchase orders.
• Coordinates and administers special computer runs and printouts requested by system users. • Performs other duties as required.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

• Considerable knowledge of current data processing technology in hardware, software, and various applications.
• Considerable knowledge of how technology can be integrated into the public sector environment for a variety of applications and purposes.
• Working knowledge of a variety of platforms and systems.
• Ability to plan and coordinate daily data processing operations.
• Ability to analyze, diagnose, and solve computer hardware and software problems.
• Ability to install and maintain hardware and software programs.
• Ability to input data into the system at the required speed and accuracy level of the work assigned.
• Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with users.
• Ability to communicate effectively in oral and written forms.
• Willingness to keep current and actively seek new information and technology in the operation and processing work. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
• Must be able to perform the basic life operational support functions of walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, fingering, grasping, talking, hearing, and repetitive motions.
• Must be able to perform sedentary work exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to move objects.
• Must possess the visual acuity to prepare and analyze figures, operate a computer, perform mechanical tasks in the computer environment, do extensive reading, and do visual inspections of computer parts and automated data.

MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Associate degree in Computer Programming or related field and networking or programming experience in a varied computer system environment; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
