RALEIGH – For the second year in a row, the N.C. Department of Transportation has been recognized as a military-friendly employer by Viqtory Inc., an organization that helps people exiting the military pursue civilian careers.
The group recognized NCDOT as a gold-level Military Friendly Employer and Military Spouse Friendly Employer for 2023. Last year, the department was named in the Top 10 in those two categories by the same organization.
The recognition will appear on www.militaryfriendly.com and be published in an upcoming issue of “G.I. Jobs” magazine, which helps connect service members transitioning out of the military into potential careers with many employers, including the NCDOT.
With over 680 veterans and reservists, nearly 7% of NCDOT's workforce of about 9,100 permanent, full-time employees has military experience.
“Military veterans and military spouses bring discipline and commitment to public service and knowledge that safety is a top priority,” said Amanda Olive, the department’s Human Resources director. “They understand teamwork, leadership, and that it takes a concerted effort to accomplish our mission.”
The NCDOT is constantly recruiting to find talented employees and fill vacancies across its various divisions. The department has improved its ability to attract and retain veterans by increasing outreach to veterans, transitioning military and military spouses. A state law allows the department to give eligible veterans preference in hiring over other applicants.
Military veterans, transitioning military, and military spouses looking to join NCDOT should visit this website and NCDOT's military transitions page.
