Help wanted: Lenoir County Health Department - Animal Control Officer II

Salary Range: $29,785 - $45,322

DESCRIPTION OF WORK: The primary purpose of this position is to be knowledgeable and responsible for the enforcement of all assigned duties as outlined through State Statutes, County Animal and Rabies Control Ordinance, Humane Control Regulations, and the County Health Director and/or his designee. And to all other matters related to domesticate animals and/or those wild animals found in a human living environment. In carrying out these duties, act as liaison, an educator, translator, and enforcer for all animal related concerns.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Thorough knowledge of public health rabies control laws. Thorough knowledge of animal collection and disposal methods. Considerable knowledge of legal and enforcement policies and procedures. Considerable ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with the public. Ability to read, interpret, and explain rules, regulations and procedures. Skill in the use of physical means, firearms, tranquilizer guns, and toxic chemicals used in capturing and destroying animals.

MINIMUM TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS: Graduation from high school with two years of law enforcement experience including one year as an animal control officer; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.

LICENSE OR CERTIFICATION REQUIRED: Must possess a Valid N.C. Driver’s License.
