Amanda and Matt Morgan are handcrafted pewter artisans who hope to keep the tradition alive by providing quality products their customers will love. House of Morgan Pewter, in Kinston, was built by Morgan’s uncle and aunt, Kent and Martha Morgan, who taught themselves how to work with pewter.

“My uncle started the company in 1980,” said Matt Morgan. “He started as a hobby and just kind of self-taught and learned through the years. He makes pewter ornaments and pendants.”

After the elder Morgans retired, it was time for the next generation of Morgans carrying on the pewter line. They took over in 2020. The Morgans moved from Wilmington to Amanda Morgan’s family land in Kinston to start their business.

“I’m so grateful that I feel so passionate about a company that I didn’t create, but I get to be a part of,” said Amanda Morgan.

Starting a business during the height of the pandemic did give the Morgan’s pause for concern. Utilizing online shops such as Amazon and Etsy, they were able to build upon the brand recognition from craft and trade shows.

“We started applying to become Amazon Handmade sellers and and that really just took off,” said Amanda Morgan.

Today, House of Morgan Pewter has over 800 current designs and a wide selection of North Carolina inspired designs. In addition to traveling to trade shows, local boutiques, and events like the BBQ Fest, the Morgans utilize ecommerce and online platforms to reach customers on a global scale. House of Morgan uses a lead free pewter blend made of tin, copper, and antimony.

“I hope we’re making Kent and Martha proud,” said Amanda Morgan.

With Christmas ornaments that say things like Merry Christmas Deep Run, or Merry Christmas Pink Hill, the Morgan’s can create custom designs fit for any occasion. They also offer fundraising opportunities.

“The key is we can make custom designs,” said Amanda Morgan.
