Obituary: Danny William Moye

LaGrange – Danny William Moye, 70, passed away Thursday afternoon at UNC Lenoir surrounded by the love of his family. Danny was born in Lenoir County to the late William and Edna Fields Moye on April 3, 1951.

Danny grew up in the Arba community of Greene County and had many fond memories from his time spent on the farm with his grandfather and uncles. He often talked about his Uncle T-Doc and spending time with him at his store. When Danny was twelve, the family moved to LaGrange where he spent the rest of his life on the same piece of land. Danny graduated from North Lenoir High School in 1969. In 1972, he met the love of his live, Debbie, at a dance in Snow Hill. They dated and were married on May 9, 1975 and spent 49 wonderful years together.

Danny was a jack of all trades and could fix nearly anything – or he would at least try. He spent his early years building houses, working for an electrician, building custom cabinets with his father-in-law, and working on the hog farm. He enjoyed his time working for the NC Forestry Service and retired in 2011 from the NC Department of Corrections as a Sergeant in Maury. After retirement, he enjoyed spending time piddling around the yard, working in the garden, sitting in the porch swing listening to bluegrass, and most of all, spending time with his grandchildren. He always made sure the grandkids had all their favorite foods and snacks at the house whenever they came.

Danny is survived by his wife, his “Darby Dawn”- Debra Rouse Moye, his two sons, Danny William “Bill” Moye Jr and wife, Mara; Joshua Shane Moye and wife, Suzanna; and his little dog Howdy Ray. He loved and was so proud of his four grandchildren – Jacob William, James Patrick, Harper Leigh, and Laura Jane Moye. He is survived by his sister, Karen Sue Moye; sister-in-law, Penny Smith and husband, Frankie; special niece, Jessie Wells and husband, Mike; great-nephews, Joey Sanders and fiancé, Celeste Redmond and Max Sanders and girlfriend, Jessica Melton; and great nieces Gracie and Drew Wells. He is also survived by his extended family through the marriage of his sons to their wives, Randy and Margaret Spaugh, Sue Smith and Sarah “Red” Dixon. Danny was preceded in death by his in-laws, James and Jackie Rouse and friend, Harry Smith.

A celebration of life will take place on Tuesday, March 1, 2022 at 6 pm in the chapel of Rouse Funeral Home with the Rev Dr Randy Spaugh officiating. Visitation will follow the service. A private graveside will be held with the family at a later date.
