Jones County property owners to receive notification of new values of properties.
The Jones County Tax Department issued the following on Jones County’s Facebook page:
Jones County property owners will soon receive notification of new values of properties.
Jones County 2022 Property Revaluation
What is a Revaluation?
• The process of conducting a mass appraisal of all real estate parcels in the county to create and maintain a fair and equitable tax base.
Why do we conduct revaluations?
• By state law all real property must be reappraised every eight years- Jones County’s last county revaluation was in 2014.
• Over time, real estate values change at different rates, causing inequities in the tax base.
• The revaluation process is designed to adjust all property values back to current market value, creating equity and a fair distribution of the tax burden.
• The primary purpose of the revaluation is to equalize property valves, not to increase tax revenue.
Notices and Appeals:
• Property owners will receive written notice of their new property value during March 2022.
• The notice will contain information about the appeals procedure, should the property owner disagree with the new assessed value.
