Greene Central’s Sidney Ramsey has been accepted into the Governor’s School. Ramsey will go to Governor’s School East, which is at Meredith College. Governor’s School is a 4-week summer residential program to prepare students for college. This program is for gifted and talented rising seniors.

“If you are selected by your school, please take the time to apply,” said Ramsey.

It took about four months for Ramsey to learn she was accepted.

“I am really excited and really happy.” Said Ramsey. “I was very relieved to find out that I had been accepted. I had to wait about 4 months after I submitted my application. It is nice to know all my hard work is paying off.”

Schools and school systems are the only ones allowed to nominate students to apply to the Governor’s School.

“She made a goal when she was a freshman to attend Governor’s School.” Said Beth Ramsey, Sidney’s mother. “She has worked hard and put a lot of time into her academics, so I am glad she can see her work is paying off.”

This program helps prepare students for college and give them a chance to experience college life before they graduate from high school.

“I am excited about this new experience.” Said Ramsey. “I hope this experience will help me prepare for the future. I also want to take advantage of this new opportunity.”

Each campus will hold up to 335 students for this program.  “I hope Sidney can meet new people, learn new ideas, and have new experiences while she is at Governor’s School,” said Beth Ramsey. “This will also be a “taste” of what life might be like when she graduates and goes to college.”
