The Kinston Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta, Inc. will present its 2022 Virtual Jabberwock Scholarship Pageant on April 23, 2022, via zoom. This year’s theme is “A Crimson & Cream Royal Affair”. Twelve high school students from Lenoir and Greene Counties will compete for the Mr./Miss Jabberwock Title.

These are students who represent high standards of character, honor, and scholarship. They are also active in school activities and in their community. They are aspiring to continue on their “Royal” life journeys by raising funds to secure college scholarships.

All contestants have a chapter sponsor who has worked with them and their parents to assist in winning the Jabberwock crown. The Jabberwock is a scholarship fund-raiser activity distinctive to Delta Sigma Theta Sorority. It was conceived by a sorority member in Boston, MA in 1925 as a musical variety show to raise funds to assist young girls with college funds.

The name Jabberwock is taken from a fictitious character in Lewis Carrol’s Alice in Wonderland. The Jabberwock also promotes encouragement and social and educational development to its contestants.

Today, many Delta chapters embrace the Jabberwock Pageant as a means to raise funds to help young people in their community attend college. Kinston Deltas held their first Jabberwock Pageant in 1960. Since then, the chapter has continued to embrace the Jabberwock Pageant as a means to raise funds for scholarships and other community projects.

The chapter invites the public to attend this year’s event at no charge by completing the pageant zoom registration: Meeting Registration - Zoom. All attendees please login at 5:45 PM. The showcase will begin promptly at 6:00 PM.
