Juvenile in custody after investigation into February shooting

Press release from Kinston Police Department

On February 2nd, 2022, shortly after 11:00pm, Officers from the Kinston Police Department responded to 202 S. Orion Street in reference to a report of shots being fired into an apartment. Upon arrival officers determined the apartment was occupied at the time of the shooting. During the investigation, multiple shell casings were recovered. One victim suffered minor injuries as a result of glass shattering during the incident and was treated by EMS at the scene and released. No other injuries were reported. 

On Wednesday, April 27, 2022, Investigators obtained a secure custody order on a 16 year old male juvenile for Attempted Murder and Discharging a Weapon into Occupied Property. The charges are the result of a shooting investigation which occurred on February 2, 2022 in the Simon Bright Public Housing Complex. The juvenile is currently in the custody of the Pitt County Juvenile Detention Center for his actions.
