Update from Kinston Police Department on March shooting, juvenile charged

Update from Kinston Police Department

 

On Tuesday, April 26, 2022, a 16 year old juvenile was arrested for his involvement in the shooting of Aldaquan Veal on March 15, 2022. The juvenile was charged with Attempted Murder and Assault with a Deadly Weapon with Intent to Kill Inflicting Serious Injury. The juvenile was placed in the custody of the Department of Juvenile Justice. Asante Trendale Collins, 25, of Jacksonville, NC still remains at large. If anyone has information about this incident, please call the Kinston Police Department’s Tips Line at 252-939-4020 or Lenoir County Crime Stoppers at 252-523-4444. Calls to Crime Stoppers are confidential and anonymous, and the caller may be eligible for a cash reward for information that leads to an arrest. 


On Wednesday, March 16, 2022, members of the Kinston Police Department obtained warrants for Asante Trendale Collins, 25, of Jacksonville, NC for Aid and Abet Attempted First Degree Murder. At this time, the Kinston Police Department is searching diligently for Collins and asks anyone with information to contact the Kinston Police Department. 

On Tuesday, March 15, 2022, at approximately 5:53 pm, Officers from the Kinston Police Department heard multiple gunshots coming from the direction of Carver Courts. Officers called in the shots fired and immediately arrived on scene. Officers located a subject sitting in a parked vehicle suffering from a gunshot wound. EMS was called and arrived shortly thereafter to assist with life saving measures. The victim was transported to the hospital and was listed in critical condition. 

The Kinston Police Department has identified the victim of yesterday’s shooting as Aldaquan Veal, 27, of Kinston and at this time, he remains in critical condition. The motive for the shooting has not been established as of this time; however this does appear to be an isolated event.

The Kinston Police Department places the highest priority on investigating crimes of violence perpetrated in our city. We will investigate such cases with no compromise for crime, and continue to seek assistance from the community we proudly serve.
