Primary day is almost here. I just want to take time and thank everyone for their support that they have shown me in the past, the present and hopefully future.

I have lived in this community (District 1) My while life, my opponent has not. I graduated from South Lenoir High School. I worked for Lenoir County School system for 32 years and retire. I have been on the school board for 16 years. We have made great strides in the 16 years, and in those 16 years we have gone from our staff and faculty attending training and seminars to now they are teaching the classes. We also had the superintendent of the year for the state in 2021.

Lenoir County school system and school board had the foresight to have a virtual learning plan already in place for any mandatory closure. When we had no choice but to close the schools because of the pandemic, we were fortunate that we had that plan in place.

My opponent accuses me of being silent, but I have ways of handling things without drama. She also accuses the board of having a personal agenda. My only agenda is the kids and the employees if Lenoir County schools. What sets me apart is that I care about each and every one of the students and staff.

I have been a scout leader for the past 19 years at Deep Run original. I am a member of Pleasant Hill Masonic Lodge and past master. I’m also a fireman at Deep Run volunteer Fire department and a member of Deep Run First Baptist Church.

I Respectfully ask for your vote on May 17 for Board of Education District 1. So as you can see, we have had change since I’ve been on the school board. We have made great strides in the system.

Respectfully,

Billy Davis, candidate for District 1 school board.
