Obituary: Billie Hill Taylor

Billie Hill Taylor, 84, of Hugo, NC peacefully went to be with her Lord and Savior on May 14, 2022.

Mrs. Billie as most folks called her, was born in Lenoir County to the late Howard Hill and Mabel White Hill. She had a 30 year career as cafeteria manager with the Kinston City Schools ending her career at Northwest Elementary. She was known at these schools for her delicious cinnamon rolls. Her cooking at home was no different. Following retirement Mrs. Billie came home and cooked lunch for her family and anyone else that might stop by everyday until her placement in assisted living in 2019.

She was also the head of the kitchen at Hugo Volunteer Fire Department fundraisers. Mrs. Billie was “the boss” and she ran a well oiled machine. She was a founding member of the Hugo Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary, serving as President for over 30 years. She was awarded the Lifetime Honorary member award in 1991. When she was not cooking Mrs. Billie was playing Bingo, slot machines or scratching scratch-offs. She enjoyed smoking and drinking her Diet Dr. Pepper but most of all she loved her family. She always put her family ahead of herself and made sure they were taken care of. A gentle and kind person but Mrs. Billie would also tell you exactly what she thought.

She is preceded in death by her husband of 53 years, Larry D. Taylor, Great-Granddaughter, Allie D. Howard and her beloved canine companion, Chesney. Survivors include daughter, Diane Taylor Howard and husband Bill of Hugo; Grandchildren, Jonas Howard and wife, Lauren of Hugo, Taylor Howard of Hugo; Step-Granddaughter Shannon Howard Carr of Kinston; Great-Grandchildren, Madelyn “Maddie” Howard, Jackson Howard, Sadie Howard, and Hudson Howard. Step-Grandchildren, Zachary Carr and Katy Carr; Step Great-Grandson, Christian Lewis.

The family will receive visitors from 6-8:00 p.m. Wednesday, May 18, 2022 at Howard-Carter Funeral Home and other times at the home of her daughter.

Graveside service will be held at 11:00 am Thursday, May 19, 2022 at Pinelawn Memorial Park with the Reverend Allen Ham officiating.
