Grantsboro-Spencer Paul Schoen, age 32, of Pamlico County, NC, unexpectedly went to be with our Lord and Savior on Thursday, April 28, 2022. Spencer was born on April 18, 1990 to Kurtis and Kimberly Schoen. Growing up, he was always such a loving child. With a heart of gold, he would give the biggest bear hugs that would make you feel all of his love for you when he wrapped his arms around you.

Spencer graduated from New Bern High School in 2008. He pursued. his schooling at Craven Community College and Mount Olive College. From there, he went to Lindsey-Cooper Refrigeration School in Irving, Texas. Spencer loved the water, tinkering with his jet ski, his tractor and his 4-wheelers. Sitting outside, listening to music and relaxing in the sun were among his many favorite things to do. He is survived by his loving parents, Kurtis Schoen of Ankeny, IA and Kimberly Schoen of Grantsboro, NC. His brother, Skyler Schoen of Holstein, IA, was his life-long best friend. Skyler and Spencer had a bond like every brother would ever want. Skyler and Spencer were always by each other’s side, through thick and thin. Where one went, the other was always there. Spencer was also survived by his maternal grandfather, Ronnie Lanier of Oriental, NC; paternal grandparents Leiloni Schoen Krenk and husband, Bernard Krenk of Ida Grove, IA. His Aunt Wanda Emory, and Aunt Pam Wurtz both of Kinston, NC, always kept him laughing at family gatherings.

He was blessed to have his Godmother and special cousin, Stephanie Emory Wallace always by his side through his whole life. He had many cousins that loved him and he held a special place in their heart: John Wallace, Madison Wallace, Stephen Emory, Natalie Emory, Zoey Emory, Darrah Warren Turnage, Aaron Turnage, Maddox Hemrick, David Turnage and Paisley Turnage all of Kinston, NC. He had a creative Aunt he loved dearly: Paula Schoen Ryan and her husband, Jay; a cousin Nick Ryan and wife Jen; Uncle Kyle Schoen and children, Jay and Kylie; Uncle Kendall Schoen and wife, Nancy and children Ben Schoen and Rachel Schoen Hoffard and husband, Kenny, all of Iowa.
