Lenoir County restaurant inspections

The following restaurant inspections were conducted by the Lenoir County Health Department:

Mas Hot Dog House & Variety

2515 Hwy 258 S, Kinston

Date: 4/05

Score: 97

Observations:

Employee health policy did not include salmonella nontyphoidal.

Some food in reach-ins was above 41F.

Non-commercial style refrigerators used.

Sink in restroom is clogged.

Some areas of floor are cracked and wall above prep table has chipping paint.

Brighthouse Mart and Grill

5189 Hwy 55 W, Kinston

Date: 4/07

Score: 95.5

Observations:

Did not perform duties according to food code.

No certified food protection present.

Employee health policy did not include salmonella nontyphoidal.

Facility did not have policy for cleaning vomit/diarrhea.

Flies in kitchen.

Wet wiping cloths left in sink and on counter.

Prep unit not working properly.

Water heater leaking on wall/floor in back room.

Ceiling in kitchen needs additional cleaning.

Smithfield's Chicken 'N Bar-B-Q

4483 US Hwy 70 W, Kinston

Date: 4/28

Score: 90

Observations:

Facility did not have complete employee health policy.

Facility did not have policy for cleaning vomit/diarrhea.

Employee adjusted clothing and continued food prep without washing hands.

Handsinks did not have hand towels available.

Batteries in dispensers were dead and sensors were not working properly. Hand towels were sitting on coffee maker.

Some dishes and utensils were visibly soiled.

Thermometer was not sanitized between uses.

Fried chicken breast final cook temp. was 130F.

Pulled pork reheated in steamer came out at 140F.

Fried chicken in walk-in from day before was 40-44F.

Inside of refrigeration units, hood system, vents, freezers, wall beside prep sink, wall behind slaw chopper, floor in grill area, warming cabinet, shelving, grill area, back of TV, and hand sinks need additional cleaning.
