Ivey’s Home & Garden of Kinston has announced a new ownership via a Facebook post. Located at 2418 Dobbs Farm road in Kinston, Ivey’s Home & Garden has been in Kinston for 20 years.

“We are so excited to announce that we are the proud new owners of Ivey's Garden Center!!”

The new owners are Tyler Potter, Katie Potter, Garrett Lanier and Caroline Lanier. They plan to continue the previous owners, Mitch and Mickey Cooper’s, legacy by serving the community’s plant and landscaping needs.

“This news makes my heart so happy,” said Patti Rochelle Ivey in the comments on the post. “My late husband, Mickey Ivey, and I created Ivey's Garden Center and first opened in 2002. Most of the arbors, building interior, and layouts were Mickey's. We sold the business to the Cooper's to leave and follow Mickey's longtime dream of full-time RVing in 2005, which we thoroughly enjoyed until Mickey's sudden death in November 2006.”

The new ownership will take effect on July 1, 2022.

“As a family, we have always enjoyed plants and how they can transform an atmosphere,” said Caroline Lanier. “We share an entrepreneurial heart and have wanted to offer our community a place to shop, hang out, and appreciate nature.”

The Laniers and Potters also plan to renovate the garden center and expand the business.

“We aim to expand the inventory to include houseplants, herbs, cut flowers, annuals, perennials, trees, and shrubs,” said Lanier. “As we want to continue serving the local landscapers we also want to cater to the local homeowner. We plan to offer garden decor and outdoor living products with custom design and build packages.”

The new owners hope to hear back from the community.

“We welcome the community’s feedback on suggestions for improvements. We want to create a welcoming atmosphere for the community to be a part of and enjoy.”
