Help wanted: North Carolina Global Trans park - Economic Development Region - Existing industry specialist

BRIEF JOB OVERVIEW: Serves primarily as the Existing Industry Specialist for NCGTPEDR as the advocate and catalyst within NCGTPEDR existing industry sector. Promotes growth and expansion of established industries, encourages new market development, and supports the daily operations of existing industry. Includes addressing all problems and/or impediments to growth by aiding in the elimination of these by effective involvement with industrial management and community leaders. Participates in NCGTP Regional Economic Development activities. Primary area would be NCGTP and Lenoir County industries.

SPECIFIC DUTIES: Administers all aspects of a Retention and Expansion Program, which includes the following: Implements ongoing and regular plant visitations, prepare weekly goal for tracking and measurement. This includes monitoring potential risk of closings, management changes, job increase/decrease, investments, and future expansion plans. Maintains informational database on all existing industries. This includes the preparation of year-end reports on trends and noteworthy information. Responsible to produce an annual Wage & Fringe Benefit Survey. This involves securing a written response from human resource officials and entering the data into a published document. Assists in any expansion plans for existing industry. This includes acquisition of property, utility upgrades, facility additions and workforce hiring and training. Also includes involvement in and expedition of the inspection and permitting process. Responds to basic requests for information from existing industry. Troubleshoots issues for existing industry. This includes immediate and successful resolution on behalf of the industry. May include working with and coordinating with a variety of organizations, agencies, officials, and personnel. Investigates and or initiate any opportunities for assistance to existing industry through grant, loan and tax programs offered by the local government, State of North Carolina and/or federal agencies/programs. Tracks all existing industry awarded grants from local, state and/or federal sources ensuring that the necessary steps have been implemented for payment disbursements. Assists in press releases and other media relations for existing industry in coordination with NCGTP Regional marketing person. Serves as a liaison with Lenoir/Wayne Community College regarding any training opportunities. This includes organizing meetings between existing industry officials and representatives of Lenoir/Wayne Community College Assists groundbreaking and/or ribbon-cutting events. Arrange in coordination of NCGTP Regional team any existing industry seminars. Serves with coordination of the Senior Vice President as a contact regarding workforce and workforce development issues. This includes involvement in various ad hoc committees and coordination with other agencies, i.e., transportation committee and Apprenticeship Program Committees. Assists in the coordination and implementation of various existing industry events. This includes but not limited to, Lenoir County Manufacturers Luncheons, Regional Manufacturers Associations and Round Tables discussions in coordination of NCGTP Regional Vice Presidents.

OTHER: Performs related duties as required LIAISON DUTIES: Acts a primary liaison in coordination with of NCGTP Regional Vice Presidents between existing industry and the following agencies/officials: Local units of government/Lenoir County and City of Kinston Economic Development Partners of NC – Existing Industry Services NC Military Business Center NC Department of Transportation Utility Allies Small Business & Technology Development Center Lenoir/Wayne Community College Business & Industry Center Lenoir/Wayne Community College WORKS Coordinator NC Workforce Solutions NC Public School System.

MEMBERSHIP DUTIES: Maintains an active membership/relationship with the following organizations/programs: NC Economic Development Association NCGTPEDR Transportation Committee (and TCC) Works Advisory Committee and related sub-committees

EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & SKILLS: Bachelor's degree in one of the following areas – Industrial Technology; Business; Economics; Communications, or a related equivalent – OR – At least five years experience in an economic development, industry, or business-related field. Graduate of the Economic Development Institute preferred. (If not, the employee will be required to complete courses and graduate.) Proficiency in Windows operating systems and Microsoft Office Programs (includes Word, Power Point, Excel, Access, and Publisher)

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Limited physical activity is required but may include carrying supplies and other office items into the office, transporting easels and display boards, carrying shovels for a groundbreaking, carrying and transporting various office items to and from meetings offsite, carrying laptop computer and projector, and setting up office materials for various meetings. In addition, walking the plant and grounds of local industry will be a weekly activity.
