Ms. Cassie Whitley and Ms. Michaela Jones are awarded the Lenoir Hospital Foundation scholarship at the entrance to UNC Health Lenoir. These excellent students are currently enrolled in the Lenoir Community College Radiography Program. The Nancy Peele Memorial Scholarship was established in January 2010 through contributions from her colleagues, friends and family. The scholarship is in recognition of beloved Nancy Peele, a native of Williamston, North Carolina, who worked in the radiology department and in the laboratory of Lenoir Memorial Hospital for nearly 47 years (Jan. 1963 to Sept. 2009). As a result of her dedication and loyal service, she was inducted into the Lenoir Memorial Hall of Honor in 2008. Nancy died on November 11, 2009, after complications from a fall. Her friends have commented that Nancy was “one of the true legends” of Lenoir Memorial Hospital.

The purpose of this scholarship is to provide financial assistance to individuals who are actively enrolled in a college or community college program to become a radiological or laboratory technologist. The (2) $500 scholarships are awarded annually and are intended to supplement the costs of tuition, books and other supplies.
