Lenoir County Board of Elections Director Steve Hines is resigning as the director and will be moving to Florida. Hines began his tenure as the director in January of 2020.

“We have received notice of Steve’s resignation,” said Lenoir County Manager Michael James. “Steve has done an outstanding job as the Elections Director for Lenoir County. He will be missed, but I wish him much success in the future.”

Over the past three years with Hines as the director, there have been election changes in the state and in the county.

“I am very proud of the work we have been able to accomplish together,” said Hines. “Citizens do not realize that the elections process does not involve only the elections office and staff but many other county departments, polling places that are willing to allow their facilities to be used and hard working, dedicated poll workers.”

Hines believes every part of the election process is critical and cannot be done without the help of those involved.

“We have seen Lenoir County's election night reporting times go from near last to near the top in our state which is a testament to everyone's hard work,” said Hines.

Hines future plans include moving to Florida and working in the elections process there.

“I am looking forward to new challenges but I will always consider my time in Lenoir County as very special,” said Hines.

Hine’s last day will be on February 7, 2023.
