KINSTON — A man was placed in jail after a Lenoir County Sheriff’s Office investigation revealed he had stolen $40,000.

In November, the LCSO took a report from a victim involving larceny of money. The resulting investigation showed that James Ward Jr. took $40,000 by using apps on the victim’s smart phone.

After investigating the case and consulting with the district attorney’s office, warrants were issued for Ward on Dec. 9; he was arrested on Dec. 26 by the LCSO for the following:

• four counts of felony larceny

• one count of obtaining property by false pretense

Ward was given a $65,000 secured bond and placed in the W.E. “Billy” Smith Detention Center in Kinston.

If residents have further information about Ward, please call the LCSO.
