Obituary: Junius H. “June” Rose, Jr.
Junius H. “June” Rose, Jr., DDS of Kinston, passed away Thursday, October 12, 2023, at Kitty Askins Hospice House in Goldsboro.
A Memorial Service will be held Saturday, October 21, 2023, at 11am at Westminster United Methodist Church. The family will receive friends at a reception following the service at the church.
Junius (June) was born on August 1, 1929, in Greenville, NC. He was preceded in death by his parents, Junius H. Rose and Lenna Rose, his wife of 52 years, Sarah Peedin Rose, his son, Junius H. Rose III, his brother, Donald J. Rose, and his sister, Ruby Jean Rose. He is survived by his daughter, Sarah Elizabeth Rose and her husband Douglas E. Miller, grandson, William Rose, and granddaughter, Maylin Miller, sister, Lenna Rose Severs, and several nieces and nephews.
June was a 1951 graduate of East Carolina University and a 1957 graduate of UNC School of Dentistry. He served as a staff dentist at Dorothea Dix Hospital in Raleigh from 1957 to 1959. June entered a private practice of Dentistry in 1959 and retired in 1998. He then became a part-time associate with Dr. Don Hardee in Greenville, NC, where he remained until 2016. During that time, he also volunteered as a part-time dentist at Kinston Community Health Center (18 years).
June actively served in the US Marine Corps and the Army National Guard. He retired with the rank of Colonel in 1989.
He was a life member of the American Dental Association, 5th District Society, and a past President of UNC Dental Alumni, past President of the NC Society of Dentistry for children, and a member of the Loblolly Dental Study Club.
June received the 5th District Dental Society Distinguished Service Award, Lenoir County Citizen of the Year Award, Order of the Long-Leaf Pine, American Red Cross Citizen of the Year, Boy Scouts of America Citizens of the Year Award, Ken Morgan 5th District Award. He was also a member and past President of Lenoir County Historical Association. He was a member of Leo Jenkins Society (ECU), and a member of the Lenoir Memorial Hospital Hall of Honor. He was also a member of the Neusiok Club, American Legion Post #43, and past member of 8-805 Wounded Warriors Team. He also served as a Board member and President of the Lenoir County Mental Health Association.
June enjoyed participating in several dental missions in Honduras and Jamaica. His favorite past times were playing tennis, woodworking, Saltwater fishing, listening to good music, and spending time with his family.
