Help wanted: Kinston-Lenoir County Public Library - Facilities manager

Location: Kinston-Lenoir County Public Library

Direct Supervisor: Melanie Morgan, Director

Hourly/Salary: $33,280 a year with full accrual of paid vacation and sick leave after the introductory period, health benefits, and membership in the NC Retirement System.

Number of Pay Periods per year: 24

Hours: 40 hours per week, tentative hours 7:00 a.m.-3:30 p.m.

GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES

An employee in this class supervises and performs routine maintenance duties in the cleaning and upkeep of library buildings, facilities, and grounds. Duties include physically strenuous activities and regular courier service. Duties are performed under the direct supervision of the Director of Libraries in support of the Library’s strategic plan.

EXAMPLES OF WORK

● Performs daily cleaning of Headquarters Library public areas and glass doors, including sweeping, mopping, vacuuming.

● Cleans and maintains restroom areas daily and as needed.

● Removes debris and litter from buildings and grounds daily.

● Cleans staff areas and offices regularly.

● Provides courier service.

● Schedules and supervises outside contractors for cleaning and maintenance of Headquarters and branch libraries when authorized by the Director of Libraries.

● Supervises the maintenance of library vehicles to include service, repairs, and upkeep.

● Moves and rearranges furniture and sets up public meeting rooms for events.

● Cleans windows, blinds, walls, and light fixtures.

● Replaces lamp tubes and bulbs.

● Performs special projects as assigned by the Director of Libraries and related work as required.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

● Ability to use cleaning materials to keep the premises in a clean and sanitary condition in accordance with OSHA regulations

● Experience with using small tools to make general repairs

● Ability to perform heavy physical labor in work assignments with emphasis on walking, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, and lifting of moderately heavy objects and materials up to fifty (50) pounds

● Ability to work with vendors and contractors, review quotations, and submit recommendations to administration

REQUIREMENTS

● Graduation from high school or an equivalent combination of experience and training

● North Carolina driver’s license acquired within 30 days of employment

WORKING CONDITIONS

Physical Demands: Job involves a considerable amount of movement and activity. Work routinely involves lifting or handling material weighing up to 50 lbs., using a computer, traveling to other work locations, and transporting materials and equipment related to programming and outreach services.

Mental Demands: This is high-level professional and technical work requiring sophisticated reasoning and independent judgment. Work is performed with minimal supervision and allows for significant discretion and variance in work routine.
