Barbara Seaforth takes oath of office in Kinston City Council meeting
At the most recent city council meeting, Barbara Seaforth was sworn in as a Kinston City Council member. Presiding over the swearing-in was the Honorable Keith Gregory, Wake County Resident Judge Superior Court.
“I'm privileged to swear you in,” said Gregory.
Born in Elizabeth City, N.C., Seaforth graduated from Elizabeth City State University in 1969 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary Education. Her teaching career began in Prince George's County, Maryland, where she spent 12 years at Matthew Henson Elementary School. Seaforth's leadership roles included serving as the fifth-grade committee chairman and mentor to newly employed teachers.
Motivated by a desire to be actively involved in decision-making impacting her community, Seaforth ran for a seat on the City Council. She had experience in leadership roles, both professionally and personally, as the foundation for her candidacy.
Council member Felicia Solomon was sworn in as she retained her seat on the city council in the 2023 Municipal Election. Mayor Pro Tem Antonio “Pearl” Hardy also retained his seat.
Council member Sammy Aiken, who did not retain his seat, was honored for his service at the city council meeting.
