Senator Perry Appointed to Interim Committees

Raleigh, N.C. – Sen. Jim Perry (R-Lenoir) has been appointed to four Legislative Interim Committees for the 2023-24 legislative interim period.  Additionally, Perry was selected to serve as the co-chair of the Joint Legislative Oversight Committee on Unemployment Insurance because of his extensive business background.  Historically, lawmakers who have felt the struggles of running a small business have held a unique perspective on the UI program.

The lion’s share of legislative work happens during interim committee meetings at the General Assembly. Interim committees allow legislators to take a more in-depth look at issues facing the state. The work that is done during the interim impacts the legislation senators pursue during the 2024 short session, which is set to begin in late April.

In addition to serving as chairman of the Joint Legislative Oversight Committee on Unemployment Insurance, Senator Perry will serve on the following committees during the interim:

  • Joint Legislative Elections Oversight Committee

  • Joint Legislative Emergency Management Oversight Committee

  • Revenue Laws Study Committee:

“I appreciate the continued opportunity to gain knowledge about, and work to improve, the operations of our State Government for the citizens of North Carolina.”

Joint Legislative committees are unique in that they are comprised of members of the NC Senate and NC House of Representatives. Each chamber selects a chairman from their chamber for each committee.  A senate member and a house member then “co Chair” their respective committees.
