Parking Lot Pathways

Jones County Career and Technical Education (CTE) Department of Jones County Public Schools held Parking Lot Pathways, its first vehicle career fair. Students across the county in the 5th and 6th grades attended the event to learn about career possibilities. This event occurred on November 30th, 2023, at the Jones County Civic Center.

Many vendors showed up to provide career information about a future in their industry. Meherrin, NCDOT, Lenoir Community College, Sayland’s Funeral Home, Maysville Public Works, Jones County EMS, Jones County Sheriff’s Office, Murphy’s Wild Game Removal, Fleet Readiness Center East (FRC EAST), Byrd's Towing, Walston Pest Control, NC Wildlife, Driver HVAC, Duke Energy, Jones County Local Government, and Jones Onslow EMC were among those that participated in the event. The students learned about careers surrounding this area and related that information to the vehicles and equipment they may see on the highways. These events are critical to spreading awareness for jobs and sparking interest in our future local workforce.

Parking Lot Pathways aimed to give these students as much knowledge as possible so they could start making plans for their future. To see these students having a blast while talking with the business professionals in a fun and hands-on environment is what this event is all about. Jones County CTE will look to make this an annual event for their students, and hopefully, it will be even larger next year with more equipment, businesses, and opportunities for students.
