BREAKING: LCSO Officer-involved shooting on Saturday results in death
UPDATE: Lenoir County Sheriff’s Office has released a mugshot of the deceased, Spencer Jackson.
UPDATE at 5:39am:
At approximately 1:30 a.m. today, deputies with the Lenoir County Sheriff’s Office attempted a traffic stop of a known suspect pursuant to a narcotics investigation. The traffic stop was conducted on U.S. 258 North near the Felix Harvey Parkway.
The suspect and sole occupant of the vehicle, Spencer Jackson, 31, of Kinston, initially stopped for deputies and then fled from the scene in his vehicle.
Deputies pursued the vehicle until it came to a stop in the 1900 block of Hullwood Drive. Jackson exited the vehicle and entered an outbuilding behind the residence. Jackson emerged with a rifle, pointing it at the deputies.
Two deputies fired upon Jackson, who died at the scene.
The North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation is on the scene investigating the officer-involved shooting.
The names of the deputies are being withheld until the SBI finishes its investigation.

An officer-involved shooting has resulted in the death of a Hullwood Drive man in the early hours of Saturday morning.
According to Lenoir County Sheriff Jackie Rogers, a man who was involved in a traffic stop on U.S. 258 North left that scene and was pursued by narcotics division deputies to a residence on Hullwood Drive.
The man ran into a building on the back side of a residence on Hullwood Drive, where the sheriff said he resided. He came out pointing a long gun at deputies and shots were fired. The man was shot and killed.
The deceased man has not yet been identified.
