Second Chance Thrift shop boss charged with skimming
KINSTON -- The manager of a non-profit business in Kinston has been charged with embezzlement.
On March 1, 2023, concerned citizens reported the alleged theft of funds from Second Chances Thrift Shop at 2300 W. Vernon Ave., Kinston.
Following a Kinston Police Department investigation, Wanda Dail, 72, of Kinston, was charged with one count of embezzlement.
Witnesses stated that Dail, manager of Second Chances Thrift Shop, had been using her position to take money from the store for an unknown period of time. Second Chances is an establishment which collects money for and supports the Lenoir County Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA).
Following interviews and collection of financial records, detectives discovered at least $4,589 had been stolen from the business since January.
“We would like to thank the concerned citizens who brought this matter to our attention, preventing any further theft of funds,” stated Chief Goyette.
“We know that this non-profit serves a vital need in our community and we also thank the Lenoir County SPCA who assisted us with their full cooperation.”
The investigation is ongoing.
