Obituary: Mary Darden Killingsworth Tyndall

Mary Darden Killingsworth Tyndall, 75, of Kinston, passed away on Tuesday, March 7, 2023 at her home. She was preceded in death by her parents, Harry and Hannah Killingsworth of Jones County; foster parents, William N. Lowery and Louise S. Lowery of Jones County; brothers, Robert B. (Dock) Killingsworth of Belhaven and Dan P. Killingsworth of Trenton; sister, Sarah K. Andrews of Trenton, and niece, Terry K. Hendricks of Washington.

Mary retired from Lenoir Community College in Kinston after 35 years as an administrative assistant to six presidents. She received the first LCC Educational Office Personnel of the Year Award 1988-1989. She was a member of Shady Grove Church and former officer of Shady Grove Women. She was a member of the Salvation Army Women’s Auxiliary and a member of the NC Association of Retired Educational Office Professionals. She was also a member and former Vice President of both the Lenoir County Chapter of AARP and the Neuse Extension Association. She received the Lenoir County AARP Volunteer Award in 2009 and 2014. Above all, Mary loved her husband, Bobby, dearly and loved life. She enjoyed spending time at the beach, shopping, reading, and a good game of cards.

She is survived by her husband, Robert L. “Bobby” Tyndall, of the home; special grandson, Ken Campen and girlfriend, Jeannie Jarman, of Minnesott Beach; sisters-in-law, Hughlene T. Huffman and husband, Paul, of Grifton, Helen W. Killingsworth of Washington, and Gina Vadala of Trenton; nieces and nephews, Sandra Andrews of Trenton, Ronnie Andrews and wife, Susan, of Greenville, and Gary Killingsworth of Washington; great niece, Michelle Phillips of Washington; three great-great nephews; special friends, Jan Hopkins, Bertie Sanders, and Joyce Taylor, and many other close family and friends.

Visitation will be held from 6:00-8:00 p.m. on Friday, March 10, 2023 at Howard-Carter Funeral Home. Funeral service will begin at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, March 11, 2023 at Shady Grove Church with Pastor Greg Dickerson officiating. A private burial will be held.
