KPD detectives seize firearm and over 400 grams of cocaine in drug bust

On March 7th, KPD’s Violent Crime Action Team concluded a 4 month investigation into the sale of crack cocaine from Avery Mitchell. Over the course of the investigation Detectives conducted 4 separate controlled purchases of cocaine. Arrest warrants were obtained on March 7th and Mitchell was later arrested while operating his motor vehicle.

While Mitchell was being arrested for the warrants, detectives simultaneously executed a search warrant on Mitchell’s storage unit. Detectives located and seized 455 grams of cocaine.

A second search warrant was obtained for Mitchell’s residence at 600 Hines Ave. During the search detectives located and seized a Smith & Wesson .357 Magnum Revolver.

Mitchell was placed in jail under a secured bond. He was charged with the following:

  • Trafficking Cocaine – 400+ grams

  • Possession of Firearm by Felon

  • Sell/Deliver Cocaine x 4

  • Sell Cocaine within 1,000 feet of School x 4

  • Felony Maintaining a Dwelling x 5

  • PWISD Cocaine
