NC State University Goodnight Scholarship awarded to South Lenoir High School student
South Lenoir High School posted the following on their Facebook page:
Please join us in congratulating Zaire Garner on his receipt of the NC State University Goodnight Scholarship.
The Goodnight Scholarship was named after Dr. Jim Goodnight, founder and CEO of the SAS Institute, and wife, Ann Goodnight, director of community relations at SAS and a member of the NC State Board of Trustees. Both are NC State graduates. Their frequent interactions with Goodnight Scholars provide students with unique and invaluable exposure to influential leaders.
The scholarship provides a full-ride to NCSU for both new and transfer students, allowing them to study STEM or STEM education disciplines. According to the program's website, the "Program empowers Goodnight Scholars to 'pay it forward' as transformational leaders at NC State, in North Carolina, and in the world."
A member of the South Lenoir National Honor Society, Zaire is also a dual-enrolled student at Lenoir Community College. He also serves as an AmeriCorp tutor in Mrs. Harris' 1st block math class. According to Mrs. Harris, "...the kids love him. He is such an inspiration and role model. He's gotten a few of my kids more interested in college and higher goals."
Congratulations, Zaire. We are very proud of your accomplishments and look forward to watching you achieve many more successes as a member of the Pack!
