Tonya Adams is a woman on a mission to make Lenoir County a better place. As the owner of The Beauty Box and The Exchange, Adams has made significant contributions to her county, earning her a place among the influential women of our community.

“I’ve always believed in my hometown,” said Adams. “I see the goodness in the community and in the people that live here.”

Her commitment to always do the right thing, work hard, have integrity, be independent, and give back whenever possible led her to take on leadership roles and make a positive impact.

Adams has collaborated with others in her community to bring about positive change. She started Bingo night at The Exchange, which has benefited Lucky Cats, SAFE, Mary's Kitchen, Lenoir County SPCA, and the Kinston High School band. She also started the Jeep Affair at Lenoir County Fairgrounds, which brings hundreds of people from all over the state and donates some of the proceeds to different non-profits.

“My challenges are personal,” said Adams. “My thoughts are direct, there is no fluff about them. I have strong opinions. At times I have to keep them to myself because the subject is none of my business.”

Adam’s civic involvement is balanced with her personal and professional responsibilities because her children are grown, she has a flexible job schedule, and a very supportive husband. She stays motivated and continues to inspire others to get involved and make a difference in their community.

“I’m excited about life,” said Adams. “My mind is always thinking how to make the community better.”

Her future plans and goals for her community are to keep educating the public with her videos about important issues. Her philosophy of "Educate to Appreciate" will continue to inspire and motivate others to get involved and make a difference.
