The Neuse Quilters Guild, a group of dedicated quilters, donated nearly 40 handmade quilts and blankets to the Kinston Police Department (KPD) on Wednesday, April 12th, 2023. The guild meets every Wednesday from 10-12 at Spilman Baptist Church on Madison Ave Kinston NC, and the church graciously donates the use of their facility for the weekly meetings.

Captain Turner and Captain Jenkins of KPD accepted the donations on behalf of the department. The quilts will be given to officers to be distributed to victims of domestic violence, natural disasters, and the homeless in their times of need.

"Today we are presenting the Kinston Police Department with handmade quilts that we've asked if they could put them in their cars and use as they deem fit. It's a hug from all of us," said Joanne Hughes, a member of the Neuse Quilters Guild.

The Kinston Police Department expressed their gratitude for the generous donation on their Facebook page, saying, "These quilts will be given to officers to be distributed to victims of domestic violence, natural disasters, and the homeless in their times of need. The Kinston Police Department would like to extend our sincerest thanks to the ladies that worked tirelessly to make this possible."

Captain Jenkins of the KPD shared, "We deal with a lot of situations on a day-to-day. There might be a kid or it might be somebody that we rescue out of the river that needs to be covered up. So we have had situations like that, but we are greatly thankful for what y'all did for us and greatly appreciate it."

The Neuse Quilters Guild's donation will undoubtedly provide comfort and warmth to those in need, and their generosity is truly appreciated by the Kinston Police Department and the community.
