ADMINISTRATIVE ASSISTANT III - Salary Range: $38,379.69 - $58,399.24

Description of Work: The primary purpose of this position is to supervise, direct, coordinate, evaluate and plan the activities of the 3 Income Maintenance Caseworker I’s, (Front desk/reception staff) and Triage Support Workers, once established. This position functions as second administrative assistant to the Economic Services Administrator and works in conjunction to provide a high level of direct administrative and clerical support to the Economic Services Administrator and the Economic Services Division. This position is also responsible for authorizing medical transportation payments in NC TRACKS.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: This employee must have the ability to delegate, carry out assigned responsibilities, and maintain a harmonious working relationship among clerical staff and internal and external clients. This employee must have excellent computer skills. This individual must have substantive knowledge and must be able to interpret and effectively explain Economic Services programs, policies, and procedures as well as State/Federal requirements. Considerable knowledge of management principles including skills in problem solving, decision making, short- and long-range planning, priority setting and conflict management are needed.

This employee must have the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with multiple disciplines and varied agencies or businesses. The employee must have the ability to read, understand and follow established policies and procedures. The employee must be able to hear, see and talk in order to perform job duties. This employee must be able to lift 20lbs. Excellent public contact skills, good oral and written communication skills, and excellent knowledge of office practice procedures are necessary. The ability to gather and give information and instruction regarding department programs, ability to interpret and analyze applicable program content in order to make necessary decisions, ability to coordinate work assignments with other individuals, and the ability to independently exercise judgment and discretion in problem situations is required.

Minimum Training and Experience Requirements: Completion of high school or equivalent and six years of progressively responsible secretarial/administrative experience including two years of administrative or office management experience involving substantial public contact, information gathering and writing experience; or completion of a two year secretarial science or business administration program and four years of responsible secretarial or clerical/administrative experience including two years of administrative or office management experience; or completion of a four-year program in a college or university preferably with major emphasis on coursework in business administration, public administration or other related fields and one year of administrative or office management experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities. One year of supervisory experience is preferred.
