Obituary: Davis Speight Webb

Davis Speight Webb, 85, of Kinston, passed away on Wednesday, April 26, 2023, at UNC Lenoir Health Care.

He is preceded in death by his wife, Helen, his parents, Hurbert Speight Webb, and Ruby Conyers Webb, and his thirteen brothers and sisters.

Davis was born in Edgecombe County on August 15, 1937. His twin sister, Kitty, was born five minutes earlier than him, and she now remains the only living sibling of the family. Davis was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather. He was a member of Glen Raven Baptist Church which later merged with First Baptist Church in Kinston.

Davis served in the United States Army from July 1960 – June 1962 as a Gunner with the Combat Support Company in Germany and was Honorably Discharged. He moved his family to Kinston in 1964 and worked most of his career at DuPont, where he retired in 1988. Davis was skilled at a wide range of repairs and ran a small business in those early years repairing engines, motors, and industrial equipment. He was a master craftsman whose design and fabrication skills were limitless. If he thought about it, he could build it.

Davis was an avid fisherman and loved spending his free time fishing with his friends and his grandchildren. He was a member of the B.A.S.S. Club and won many fishing tournaments and trophies. He also designed and distributed his own line of fishing tackle.

Davis is survived by his daughters, Donna Webb, Annette Turik and husband Scott; son, Reuben Webb; grandchildren, Jonathan McDonald and wife, Trisha, Kenneth McDonald and wife, Brandi, Caleb Turik and Kyle Turik; and great grandchildren, Adam McDonald, Nate McDonald, Aidia McDonald, Lilly Hardison and Mazie Hardison, all of Kinston.

Visitation will be held from 12:00 noon until 1:00 p.m. Monday, May 1, 2023, at First Baptist Church, 2600 Rouse Road, Kinston, NC. Funeral services will begin at 1:00 p.m. with Pastor Jon Hoover and Pastor Don Causey officiating. Burial will follow the funeral service at Pinelawn Memorial Park, 4488 West Vernon Avenue, Kinston, NC.
