Law Enforcement and RADD collaborate for Project Safe and Sound
On June 3rd, Raising Awareness for the Developmentally Disabled (RADD) will host a charity event. RADD is an organization that provides social and recreational activities to disabled individuals and their families. They also provide resources, advocacy, as well as education pieces for families.
“We’re really hoping we can have the community’s support and they’ll come out to watch, support us and really learn what RADD is and this new collaboration that we have going on,” said Executive Director of RADD April Houston.
The three-part event will start first with a motorcycle ride through Kinston. Registration for the ride is from 9:00 a.m.- 10:00 a.m. and the first 50 registrants will receive a keepsake token. The registration cost for the ride is a monetary donation of any amount to RADD. The ride will depart from Boneyard Harley-Davidson, riders will then parade through Caswell Developmental Center, the NC State Veterans Home, RADD Baseball at Grainger Stadium then return back to Boneyard Harley-Davidson for free beer, food trucks, and to learn more about RADD.
While the riders parade through Kinston, at Grainger Stadium there will be a special needs baseball game with the Down East Wood Ducks. The riders will have the opportunity to stop and meet the special needs athletes and Wood Ducks when they stop at Grainger. Also at Grainger RADD, the Lenoir County Sheriff’s Office and the Kinston Police Department will be announcing their collaboration on Project Safe and Sound.
Project Safe and Sound is a form that anyone in the community can fill out and submit to the Kinston Police Department or the Lenoir County Sheriff’s Office. The form stays within emergency services and is completely confidential. It’s a way for law enforcement to identify if some individuals need extra attention or certain needs.
The only cost for the event is to register for the motorcycle ride. All the proceeds will go to RADD.
