Lenoir Community College Spring Concert to be held on Thursday, May 4
By Cailyn Kennedy
Lenoir Community College is presenting the Associate in Fine Arts Annual Spring Concert at 7 p.m. Thursday, May 4 in the Briley Auditorium on the Turner Stage. The performance is open to the public, and the show will comprise student performances, the LCC Choral Ensemble, and the Symphonic Winds.
“Every year, I continue to be amazed by the level of talent of students here at LCC. Our recitals are a great way to showcase the hard work and effort of our students over the course of the semester,” says Jessica Cruz, Fine Arts Program Chair. “We are so excited to add the Symphonic Winds to our performance groups here at LCC. This has been years in the making, and we could not have done it without the direction and perseverance of Dr. McBride.”
All groups performing are excited to bring their skills to the stage, performing works by Johann Strauss, John Williams, Braeden Ayres, Ben Bernie, Maceo Pinkard, and more! Also, for a bit of a twist, the concert will have a May the 4th Be with You theme in an ode to the Star Wars Franchise.
The concert will begin with student performances for those pursuing a degree in Fine Arts, followed by the Choral Ensemble composed of students. Following these performances, the Symphonic Winds will perform for the first time since their formation this past year.
Bringing the community together to form Symphonic Winds is the brainchild of music instructor, Dr. Brian McBride. The group will make its debut appearance at the College’s Spring Concert. The group comprises community members, LCC students, and even LCC faculty and staff. “We are always looking for individuals throughout the community to come and join us. We are even hoping to add a Jazz Ensemble to the lineup for next year,” says Dr. McBride.
“Overall, we are just thankful for the LCC Foundation as well as the Arts and Sciences department at the College for their support,” he says. “We hope to continue growing the instrumental program here at the college and bring in as many people as possible to these groups.”
