A dedication ceremony was held to unveil a historical marker honoring Mitchell's Christian Singers. The event, which took place at the Golden Progress venue, marked the culmination of years of research and prayer by the community. The marker is located near the Golden Progress Community Center on 524 S Queen St., which is part of New Hope Church Ministries.

“Our research journey took three years of research,” said Alvin Woods, co-author of When You Bow in the Evening, Say a Prayer for Me. “Research and much prayer and supplication. Most importantly, the community sharing information with us.”

The influential gospel music group, Mitchell's Christian Singers, was celebrated for their remarkable contributions to the genre during a dedication ceremony held in Kinston, North Carolina. The event honored the group's prolific musical career from 1934 to 1940.

The journey to commemorate these influential figures began in 2017 when residents, Elijah Woods Jr. and his brother Alvin Woods, embarked on a mission to identify and recognize the impact of gospel singers and musicians in the region.
