Incident at Atlantic Avenue and Pollock Street resolved safely
An incident involving a city worker and an armed resident occurred earlier today at the corner of Atlantic Avenue and Pollock Street. Law enforcement authorities swiftly responded to the situation, ensuring the safety of the public and bringing the individual into custody.
According to Kinston Police Department Chief Keith Goyette, who provided an update on the incident, the event unfolded amidst the chaos caused by a possible tornado touchdown in Kinston. While dealing with the aftermath of the natural disaster, authorities received a report of an individual shooting a gun at a city worker near Pollock Street and Atlantic Avenue.
The Lenoir County Sheriff's Office and the Kinston Police Department SWAT team were immediately dispatched to the scene. After a careful operation, they were able to safely apprehend the individual involved.
At this early stage of the investigation, details regarding the motive or circumstances surrounding the incident remain scarce. Chief Goyette mentioned that the incident occurred approximately 45 minutes prior to the interview, and therefore, it is still under investigation. During the operation, certain roads were temporarily blocked off, causing disruptions in the area. However, Chief Goyette assured the public that the situation is now under control, and the affected roads will be reopened soon. There is currently no ongoing threat to the public's safety.
