Man arrested after alleged vehicle theft
A man who allegedly stole a person’s vehicle and belongings at an area gym on Saturday was soon arrested in Johnston County after the theft, thanks to the quick action of a Lenoir County Sheriff’s Office deputy.
The victim found his belongings — including his car keys, wallet and cell phone — were stolen from a locker room at the gym; he also noticed his vehicle was missing from the gym’s parking lot.
An off-duty LCSO deputy overheard what had just occurred and began to investigate. After calling in the theft and the quick reaction of the deputy, the vehicle was soon discovered in Johnston County when the State Highway Patrol pulled it over.
Tarcisio Torres-Olvera was driving the vehicle; all the stolen property was in the vehicle. The 24-year-old had joined the gym only two weeks earlier but had used a different name and date of birth to sign up for the membership.
Torres-Olvera was charged with:
• larceny of a motor vehicle
• breaking and/or entering a motor vehicle
• possession of a stolen motor vehicle
• misdemeanor larceny
• misdemeanor possession of stolen goods
Torres-Olvera was taken to the Lenoir County Jail, where he was confined and given a secured bond.
