Obituary: Georgia Allen Lewis Ormond

Georgia Allen Lewis Ormond, 84, of Kinston, passed away peacefully Tuesday, June 27, 2023 at Magnolia Cottage after a long battle with dementia. She was preceded in death by her husband of 48 years, Gene Dixon Ormond. Georgia is survived by her two children, daughter Barbara Eubanks and husband Chris of Richmond Hill, GA; son Allen Ormond and wife Anne of Newport, NC; and three grandchildren, Alexander Eubanks, Abigail Ormond and Andrew Ormond. She was the seventh of nine children of Wallace J. and Susan B. Lewis and is survived by three sisters, Marjorie Harrell of Snow Hill, NC, Carolyn Butler and Marolyn Minton, both of Kinston, NC.

Georgia was an active member of Queen Street United Methodist Church. She enjoyed volunteering, including being a pink lady at Lenoir Memorial Hospital, delivering Meals on Wheels, being a member of the United Methodist Women and serving as president several years, reading to elementary school children in the Volunteer Readers program and helping with the children’s garden. She also enjoyed gardening and arranging flowers, becoming a Master Gardener, was a member of the Dirt Daubers Garden Club and used the skills she learned from both to decorate Queen Street United Methodist church. Georgia worked for Carolina Telephone and Telegraph before becoming a stay-at-home mother and homemaker. Once her children were grown, she worked part-time for Rider’s Florist.

Services for Georgia will be held at Queen Street United Methodist Church in Kinston, NC on Saturday, July 8, 2023. Visitation will begin at 10:30am followed by a memorial service beginning at 11:30am.
