Kay Harrell Wins 2023 Lighthouse Award

Kinston, N.C. – Kay Harrell was honored with the 2023 Lighthouse Award by Lenoir/Greene United Way on Wednesday, July 19 at the nonprofit organization’s nautical-themed gala, “Set Sail With Us.”  Presenting sponsor, Dr. Rusty Hunt representing Lenoir Community College shared Harrell’s impressive bio with a full house of attendees.  Highlights mentioned included Harrell’s extraordinary leadership among several local nonprofit and civic organizations, her tenure as the first-ever female president of Kinston Rotary Club, her work in Ghana for the growth of literacy, and her legacy of support for Lenoir/Greene United Way. The Lighthouse Award is presented to a legacy donor of Lenoir/Greene United Way for outstanding community stewardship.  Past honorees were the late Pearl Schechter (2021) and P.C. Barwick (2022).

Remarks were also given by Jeremy Jones, Board Chair and Molly Taylor, Executive Director of Lenoir/Greene United Way on the successes of this past year and a challenge to “Sail Together” so that all individuals can thrive in their best and most fulfilling lives.  Special thanks to the 27 sponsors who funded this event.

A trusted leader and catalyst in community and economic development, Lenoir/Greene United Way kicks off their annual campaign this August.  Companies are encouraged to begin setting up their presentation dates now.
