Catch 22: A family-owned seafood restaurant will open its doors Saturday
Catch 22, a southern fried seafood style restaurant will have its grand opening on July 29th. The restaurant will be open from 11 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Wednesday through Saturday. The restaurant is located at 1602 N. Queen St. in Kinston.
The restaurant will include menu items such as shrimp, flounder, and salmon. They will also include sides such as fries, coleslaw, potato salad, homemade cornbread, and muffins. The restaurant will also include some desserts such as banana pudding. The restaurant will operate on a cook-to-order approach, so it asks that customers please allocate sufficient time for their food to be prepared. Catch 22 will operate as a family-owned venture between AJ and Cris Jones as well as their son Caleb.
“We’re entrepreneurial-minded and we got to talking one day that no one really specializes in fried seafood,” said AJ.
The restaurant will primarily be a father-and-son venture between AJ and Caleb. Eventually, the restaurant will be managed and run by Caleb, who is currently a student at Pitt Community College majoring in marketing. Currently, the restaurant is all family-operated but as it begins to grow, they anticipate hiring more employees.
Prior to opening the restaurant, the Jones used to own and operate a food truck. AJ loves to cook and has been doing it his whole life. While working on the food truck, Caleb began cooking and really enjoyed it. Working and cooking together on the food truck inspired them to open the restaurant together.
“He’s always had an entrepreneurial mindset and wanted to open his own business, so since he enjoyed cooking, we thought it would be a good marriage,” said AJ.
