Obituary: David Earl Rose

David Earl Rose, age 69, passed away Tuesday, July 4, 2023. Born in Wilson County on January 6, 1954, he was the second child of Rexford Harold Rose and Gladys Marie Goodwin Rose.

As a child, his family moved to Hookerton where David resided for most of his adult life. Growing up he attended the Hookerton Methodist Church. For many years he operated Rose’s Wallpaper Service in New Bern with his older brother, Stan. Following Stan’s death in 2013, David began working with the NC Department of Corrections at Maury Correctional Institute before transferring to Craven Correctional where he retired. David was also a veteran, having served in the US Air Force.

David is survived by his younger brother, Billy Ray Rose of Hookerton; a special cousin, Mary Ann Albritton Radford of Hookerton; uncle, George “Buddy” Goodwin of Fremont; cousin, Phyllis Goodwin Williams; and various other relatives.

A Memorial Service will be held 3 PM Sunday, July 9th, at the Hookerton Methodist Church with Reverend Rebecca Harrison officiating. The family will greet friends and extended relatives immediately following the service. David’s ashes will be interred at the Stantonsburg Cemetery with is parents at a later date.
