Help wanted: Lenoir Community College - Graphic Designer

Salary: $35,000 - $41,000 Annually

The Graphic Designer designs, produces, and finishes documents and graphics for electronic display and/or printed output as requested by patrons of the Printing Department using a variety of software, printing, and finishing equipment. The position is responsible for clerical and physical tasks in connection with designing and producing documents and graphics to the specifications requested. This person also directs and coordinates the activities of other staff members engaged in the production process.

The duties of the Graphic Designer include, but are not limited to:

· Work closely with patrons of the Printing Department to develop visually appealing design projects to meet specific marketing objectives from conceptual development to final product while retaining the image standard established by the College in conjunction with the Director of Marketing and Communications and the President

· Conceptualize, develop, and assist in the execution of college-wide marketing, advertising, and promotional campaigns

· Provide customer service, job planning and estimating, order entry, production scheduling, and ordering of paper and printing/imaging supplies

· Work with outside vendors to coordinate off-campus printing projects

· Some high-speed copier operation, digital press operation, and light bindery operations

Qualifications

· Associate in Applied Science degree from a regionally accredited institution in graphic arts/graphic design/printing technology

· Must have experience in graphic design of complex graphics and multi-page/panel publications.

· Must be able to utilize a Macintosh computer system and Adobe Creative Suite to perform scanning, photo editing/correction, color correction; image preparation for print or web; proofreading; and digital color proofing

· Must be knowledgeable in prepress operations including preflighting of all files, imposition, and file output

· Must have a firm understanding of the offset, screen, digital, and wide-format printing/output processes and workflows

· Must also be able to type at least 45 words per minute, prepare files for off-campus production, and create PDF files for remote proofing

· Must be able to think critically and troubleshoot production issues

· Must be able to communicate effectively both orally and in writing with patrons and printing department staff

· Must have knowledge of print estimating, planning, and preparing job tickets

· Must be able to follow detailed oral and written instructions

· Must be able to exercise basic human relations skills in establishing and maintaining effective working relations with the college community

Working Conditions

· The Graphic Designer will work in a typical office environment and printing production facility

· May be exposed to chemical, mechanical, or electrical hazards

· May be exposed to paper dust, fumes, or odoriferous working conditions

· Must be able to sit for long periods at a computer
