Obituary: Lois Cooke Wallace
Lois Cooke Wallace went peacefully to be with her Lord and Savior Sunday, September 29, 2024.
A graveside service will be conducted Friday, October 4, 2024, at 10:30 AM in Pinelawn Memorial Park. The family will greet friends following the service.
Lois was born February 1, 1937, in Lakeview, SC. She graduated in 1959 from the Hamlet School of Nursing. Lois moved to Kinston in 1960, which is where she met Leon Wallace, and they married in 1961. They had two daughters together, Lynn and Norma. She continued her education and in 1984 she earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing from Atlantic Christian College, which is now known as Barton College.
Lois was a true caregiver and thrived on helping and nurturing others. Her nursing career ended after 39 years of service with Lenoir Memorial Hospital. During her time there she worked in many areas of the hospital. She worked as the staff nurse in the surgical unit, pediatrics, obstetrics, emergency department, recovery room, and served as an IV team lead and interim head nurse in the recovery room. Before retiring in 1999, she worked as the Administrative Supervisor and during that time she was responsible for the hospital on nights and weekends.
During her years at Lenoir Memorial Hospital, she developed and implemented an Orientation Program for their new nurses. Lois was also the liaison between the hospital and Carolina Organ Procurement Agency. She was on the LMH Speakers Bureau and was an active member of the hospitals Toastmasters Charter and the LMH Pacesetters. Lois was also the President and Secretary of the NC Nurses Association, District 32.
Lois was a current member of First Baptist Church and a previous member of Northwest Christian Church. She loved the Lord and her family.
Lois is survived by her daughters, Lynn Wallace Glaser (Will) of St. Petersburg, Fl., Norma Wallace Kintz (Bo) of Morehead City; grandchildren, Neil Quillen and Mallory Glaser; step-grandchildren, Brittanie Glaser Haynes, Braunwyn Glaser Boney, Dailey Kintz; step-great grandchildren, Holliday and Sierra Haynes; siblings, Jim Cooke, Hester Duncan, Esther Patterson, Pansy Bates, and Cindy Messer.
In addition to her parents, Howard Foster and Blanche Blackman Cooke, Lois is preceded in death by her husband, Leon E. Wallace; step-mother, Mae Rogers Cooke; siblings, Louise Riggs, Mary Allen, Jack Cooke, Dan Cooke, and Richard Fairbanks.
