Holly Jolly event returns to Kinston Community Center for 11th annual celebration
The Kinston Community Center is gearing up to host the 11th annual Holly Jolly event, an occasion that has become a local holiday staple. This year's festivities will continue the tradition of providing a diverse shopping experience while supporting local businesses and a charitable cause. Kelly Cannon, Director of the Kinston Community Center, shared insights about the event's evolution, vendors, activities, and community impact.
Cannon expressed enthusiasm about the event's growth, stating, "We are thrilled to host the 11th annual Holly Jolly Show at the Kinston Community Center." Over the years, the event has expanded in both size and scope, attracting more vendors and a larger community presence each year. The Holly Jolly event serves as a kickoff to the holiday shopping season, providing local businesses and artisans an opportunity to showcase their goods to the community.
Attendees can expect a wide range of products from local artisans and businesses. Cannon described the diverse offerings, saying, "The Holly Jolly offers a shopping experience with a wide array of items. You can find anything from holiday and home decor, boutique clothing, children's books and crafts, jewelry, woodworking, and lots and lots of yummy treats." This variety ensures there is something for everyone, whether shoppers are looking for holiday gifts, decorations, or specialty foods.
Admission to the Holly Jolly event is priced at $10 at the door. However, tickets can be purchased in advance for $8 on the event's official website, hollyjollykinston.com. Children aged 12 and under can attend for free. The event will take place over two days, starting on Friday, November 22, with a "Sip & Shop" adult-only evening from 5-8 p.m. This segment of the event will feature live music, food, and a signature drink for participants to enjoy while shopping. The second day of the event, Saturday, November 23, is open for general shopping from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
For those interested in participating as vendors, Cannon noted that space can still be reserved through their website. "We are still accepting vendors," she confirmed, encouraging local artisans and business owners to join the lineup.
One of the significant aspects of the Holly Jolly event is its focus on benefiting the local community. Cannon explained, "This annual fundraiser kicks off the holiday shopping season while supporting small businesses." The event also shares proceeds with RADD (Raising Awareness for the Developmentally Disabled), reflecting a commitment to community involvement and support. For the 2024 event, the partnership with RADD aims to increase awareness and funds for programs supporting developmentally disabled individuals.
Beyond shopping, attendees can look forward to special activities. The "Sip & Shop" on Friday evening provides an adult-only shopping experience with added entertainment. On Saturday, a special guest—Santa Claus—will make an appearance, adding to the festive atmosphere. Kids can engage in hands-on activities, such as making "Reindeer Food" with RADD or crafting handprint ornaments at The Purple Turtle Workshops' booth.
The Holly Jolly event is not just about shopping; it also provides an opportunity for community members to get involved. "We are always looking for volunteers or planning committee members," Cannon said, encouraging those who want to contribute to the event's success. Volunteers play a critical role in ensuring the smooth operation of the event, from set-up to assisting with various activities throughout the weekend.
When asked about the message she hopes to convey through the Holly Jolly event, Cannon emphasized the importance of community collaboration. "We always love to promote collaboration by bringing together other local small businesses, artisans, and causes," she stated. The event is designed to be a joyful holiday shopping experience that also raises awareness for important local initiatives. She concluded with an invitation to the community: "Join us for a joyful holiday shopping experience that also supports a great cause!"
The Holly Jolly event has become a cherished tradition, bringing together local businesses, families, and visitors for a weekend of festive fun. With its emphasis on supporting small businesses and charitable organizations, the event represents a meaningful way to begin the holiday season.
