Evelyn Dove Coleman: Blessed with family
As we celebrate Thanksgiving, I am reminded of how blessed we are to have a family. This week I heard from various people who are staying in during the holiday, some due to traffic, others due to weather. But with some, their relatives live far away, and they are flying solo not by choice.
Those who are gathering with a group of family members may consider that it is important how we treat each other. People born into our families deserve the same courtesy and respect we offer to others. Sometimes we fail. We say things or behave in ways that are hurtful because we take for granted those tied to us by blood.
This Thanksgiving, as we carve the turkey and slice the pies, think of ways to make someone in your family happy. Say or do something kind. Share a burden that they normally carry. Play a light-hearted game or watch football together. Do a family fun-walk. Holidays are a great time for families to get together while we can. Have a Happy Thanksgiving!
